OUR

PROGRAMS

Animal Relief Fund

The ARF fund provides financial aid to help qualifying Dona Ana County pet owners with veterinary care, helping to prevent animal suffering and allowing pet owners to keep their animals rather than surrendering them to the animal shelter because they can't afford veterinary care.

Pets For Seniors

The Dona Ana County Humane Society offers discounts for senior citizens who wish to adopt a pet from the Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley (ASCMV).

Ruff To Ready

In an effort to prevent dogs from being returned to the shelter, the Doña Ana County Humane Society established the "Ruff to Ready" program, which offers basic behavior training to shelter dogs that are in foster care or in foster-to-adopt homes through the ASCMV and APA.

ABOUT US

The Doña Ana County Humane Society, founded in 1955, is Las Cruces' oldest animal welfare organization. We are volunteer-based and dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals in our region. We do this by working to change local rules and laws regarding animal welfare, administering programs that help get pets out of the city/county shelter and keep them with their families, promoting spay and neuter through both financial support and marketing, and educating the public about humane practices.

Our goal is to bring about change and create a better world for our animal companions. We are not a shelter; however, we do support our local city/county shelter, the Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley.

Mission statement: DACHS' mission is to serve as an advocate for the animals and their people in Doña Ana County and to maintain an environment of respect, responsibility and compassion through education, legislation and leadership. We are committed to reducing animal overpopulation and defending the abused.

Our focus is to save the lives of animals. We do that by administering programs  that help get pets out of the shelter, into good homes, and keep them out of the shelter.

Our motto is "Keeping people and pets together." To that end, we address problems on multiple fronts, utilizing methods that have potential for making the greatest impact. We do not duplicate services provided by other animal welfare organizations, but fill areas of unaddressed need.
